Monday Night Fever: Cumbia, Go-Go, and Dutch Pop Royalty

Forget the "Monday blues"—DC is currently hosting everything from Dutch Eurovision stars to legendary Peruvian Cumbia. Whether you're hitting Navy Yard for a spectacle or U Street for an underground sweatbox, tonight is for the night owls.

It’s mid-May in the District, and if you think a Monday night means staying in with takeout and Netflix, you clearly haven’t stepped outside lately. The humidity hasn't quite turned the city into a swamp yet, making it the perfect temperature to bounce between venues. Tonight, the 2026 concert season is flexing its muscles with a schedule that looks more like a frantic Friday than the start of the work week. From the waterfront to the historic halls of Shaw, the city is pulsing.

The Lineup

The heavyweight title for tonight belongs to Navy Yard, where Dutch sensation Joost Klein is bringing his world tour to The Anthem. Expect high-energy pop, frantic visuals, and a crowd that probably hasn't slept since the weekend. Meanwhile, over in Noma, it’s a hometown hero celebration as Big G hosts a massive Birthday Bash at Echostage. If you want to experience the true heartbeat of DC, there is no substitute for a packed room at Echo when the Go-Go legends take the stage.

If you're looking for something with a global flair, head straight to Shaw. The Howard Theatre is hosting Los Mirlos with Kristy La r for a night of psychedelic Amazonian cumbia that will make you forget you’re five blocks from the Metro. For the electronic purists, Flash is keeping things dark and deep with Steller and Danny Daze. Just down the street at Culture in U Street, Simon Doty and Layla Benitez are taking over "The Duplex" for a night of melodic techno that usually only happens at 4 AM on a Sunday.

The U Street corridor is essentially a crawl tonight. Start early at DC9 for Foxtide’s indie-surf vibes, or catch ŁASZEWO at the legendary 9:30 Club. As the clock strikes midnight, Black Cat turns into the city’s premier lesbian club night with LUSH, while DC9 pivots to a "Seven Nation Army" 2000s dance party for everyone who still thinks 2004 was yesterday.

Where to Go If You Want To...

Relive Your Youth (Or Just Dance Like It):
If you need a nostalgia fix, White Ford Bronco is holding court at The Hamilton Live in Downtown. They are the undisputed kings of the 90s cover scene, and seeing them in the intimate, upscale setting of The Hamilton is a treat. For a more rowdy vibe, Decades in Dupont Circle is throwing their "rita de cinco" party, or you can head Downtown to Ultrabar for a surprisingly loud Monday session that feels like a weekend peak.

Keep it Low-Key and Liquid:
Not everyone wants to lose their hearing on a Monday. If you're looking for craft excellence, the Brujos Bash at ChurchKey in Logan Circle is the move. It’s the perfect spot to geek out over rare pours without having to shout over a DJ. Alternatively, if you want a side of soul with your drink, Mr. Henry's on Capitol Hill is hosting SoulJourners Jazz, offering that classic DC lounge atmosphere that feels like a warm hug after a long day.

Late Night / Looking Ahead

As the shows at The Anthem and Echostage spill out, expect the late-night diners and dive bars along 14th Street to stay buzzing well past 1 AM. This week is just a warm-up for a massive festival season, so consider tonight your training session.

Drink some water, call an Uber, and we'll see you at the front of the stage.
