Penn Social Returns To Sports Bar Format As Owners Pull Back From Struggling Coffeehouse Model
Penn Social has returned to its original sports bar and event space format, phasing out the Little Penn Coffeehouse brand to focus on its roots as a downtown party destination. The venue features a subterranean live music and event space alongside a main floor equipped with arcade games, pool tables, and multiple screens for sports watch parties.
Penn Social Reopens As Concert Hall, Coffeeshop, Podcast Studio
Penn Social has transformed into a multi-use venue featuring a 500-capacity subterranean concert hall, a podcast studio, and a first-floor coffeehouse called Little Penn. The revitalized space at 801 E St. NW utilizes high-quality sound and lighting systems to host live music ranging from jazz to local go-go, alongside community events and an outdoor patio.

Penn Social is the new host for Firehouse Fridays, a weekly country dancing event featuring line dancing, two-step, and swing lessons followed by open dancing. The venue, which recently underwent renovations to offer the largest dance floor in the DMV area, hosts these sessions every Friday night from January 2 through April 24, 2026.
